About Ivey Memorial UMC

All are welcome!

Our Mission: Guided by prayer and the Bible, we will make disciples of Jesus Christ through worship, teaching, fellowship, and witnessing and ministering in love to all God's children.

In 1882, James Joshua Ivey inspired several other people of faith to renovate Arrowfield Church (which had been started in 1831 and abandoned in 1864). Under his leadership a Methodist congregation held services there within a year. In 1890 after the death of J. J. Ivey the name of the church was changed to Ivey Memorial in his memory.

Throughout the years Ivey Memorial has grown in spirit and in number. As a result, many additions have been made to the physical plant. In 1923 classrooms were added. The first fellowship hall, kitchen, church offices and bathrooms were built in 1956. Eight years later with the congregation continuing to grow, the present sanctuary was completed. The year 1987 saw the completion of the large fellowship and recreation hall. At that time additional classrooms and bathrooms were also added. These facilities now enable the members of Ivey Memorial to offer a varied program of ministries in the tradition begun by J. J. Ivey.

Our goal is to humbly serve Christ in Colonial Heights and Chesterfield, Virginia.
