The Metal Drive Continues

Our Metal Drive in 2017 was an overwhelming success and we will be continuing it in 2018.  We specifically will be collecting and taking metal to the recycle site from 8-10amon April 28th.  If you have large items, appliances and such, that need to be picked up, please call the church office at 526-1350 or contact Beth Honea.  These can be arranged on other dates.  Small items, cans, etc. can be left at the church in the interim in the indoor (large social hall) or outdoor (behind the dumpster).  Cans need to be washed and labels removed and we appreciate your sorting  food (tin) vs. drink (aluminum) cans.  Everyone’s help is encouraged as these efforts are good for the church and good for the environment.

Investing in the Future

Ivey Memorial Announces Annual Scholarship Program

Serving the church and community is always at the heart of the members of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. Serving also means investing in the future – the future of the church’s congregation. On Sunday, April 1st Ivey announced its Annual Scholarship Program to help make the cost of higher education more affordable.

The idea to offer a scholarship was an easy decision for Ivey. The cost of higher education continues to increase annually, making it difficult for students and families to pay for tuition, housing, books, and other expenses. Church members recognize that funding higher education can help create opportunities for the future. They also know that a brighter future can result in an individual’s increased personal involvement in the community. Greater involvement creates stronger communities. Stronger communities benefit everyone.

While most scholarships are restricted to graduating high school seniors, Ivey UMC is making the scholarship available to active members that are graduating high school seniors, current college students, and adults continuing their education. Members currently attending or planning to attend a college, university, or technical school in Fall 2018 are eligible to apply for the $1,000 annual scholarship. All applicants will be evaluated on their church involvement, academic achievement and extracurricular activities, personal interview, and personal recommendations.

Continuing the scholarship, making it renewal, or even increasing the value are all possibilities for the future. To support these goals, Ivey UMC will be sponsoring a Book Fair on Saturday, May 5th from 9:00am-12:00noon in the Large Fellowship Hall, in partnership with the Child Development Center Annual Spring Fling. Provided by Collective Goods, the Book Fair will include books for young and old in addition to electronics, home goods, and kids’ gifts. A percentage of the Book Fair profits will go toward the scholarship fund.

In 1831 Ivey Memorial was established by faithful followers with a vision to grow the church for Christ and serve its members and the surrounding community. Today, that vision continues at the corner of Jefferson Davis Hwy and Harrowgate Road. A vision that supports members and invests in their future.
