Cub Scouts

Cub Scouting means " doing. " Everything in
Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities
are used to achieve the aims of Scouting: citizenship training,
character development, and personal fitness. Many of the activities
happen right in the den and pack. The most important are the weekly
den meetings and the monthly pack meetings. Apart from the fun and
excitement of Cub Scout activities, the Cub Scout Promise, the Law
of the Pack, and the Cub Scout sign, handshake, motto, and salute
all teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy's sense of
belonging.
Pack 178 was started in 1985, sponsored by Ivey Memorial
Methodist Church. The first Cubmaster was Arther Hinton Jr. and the
Committee Chairman was Brenda H. Hinton and the pastor was Ernest
Herndon. The Webelos of the pack goes on the campouts and day events
such as bowling, Laser Tag, go carting, rock collecting, and fishing
. The pack also works with Troop 178 on service projects such as
Petersburg National Battlefield , Pocahontas State Park, Pamplin
Park, Five Forks Battlefield and Scouting for Food . The Cubmaster
is Art Faithful and the pastor is Tom Brown. The pack meets at Ivey
Memorial Methodist Church on Thursdays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
