Tammy and Linwood Gettings Memorial Scholarship
Information and Application Process
- THE TAMMY AND LINWOOD GETTINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IS:
- Awarded to a graduating high school senior or adult to further the recipient’s education. Two (2) $1000 (One thousand US Dollars) scholarships are available.
- An honorarium payment will be made to the, (College/University or Trade/Technical School), the applicant plans to attend on or before August 1st of the school year.
- Depending on funding, the scholarship application can be resubmitted up to 3 sequential years to previous recipients.
- The scholarship recipient will be recognized on Ivey Memorial Methodist Church’s “Graduation Sunday”.
- If the winner is a graduating senior, the high school that the award winner attends will be notified of the award.
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify as a candidate for the Tammy and Linwood Gettings Memorial Scholarship, the high school graduating senior or adult must meet the following criteria:
- Be a High School Graduate or have completed a GED, and maintain a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5.
- Have applied for admission to or is attending an accredited College/University or Technical School.
- Must show proof of acceptance if not already enrolled in an accredited College/University or Technical School prior to distribution of the award.
- Be of good character.
- Have a record of good attendance in their previous or present school history.
- SELECTION CRITERIA
The candidate will be evaluated on all facets of his/her life. Some areas, however; will be given greater consideration than others. The five main areas to be considered are listed in order of importance:
- Special consideration will be given for those students with a goal of pursuing a career in Nursing or Law Enforcement.
- Special consideration will be given if the student is a member of or is active in Ivey Memorial Methodist Church.
- Academic achievement and extracurricular activities.
- Personal interview with the scholarship committee.
- Letters of recommendation.
Note: The selection committee may decide there is no viable candidate per the qualifications and may not award a scholarship for those years.
- APPLICATIONS
- Applications for the Tammy and Linwood Gettings Memorial Scholarship will be available in the church office (17120 U.S. Rt. 1, South Chesterfield, VA 23834) or on the Ivey Memorial Website (www.iveymemorial.org)
- Mailed application packets will be accepted if postmarked no later than April 15th.
- Application Contents and Completion Instructions:
All candidates must submit a completed scholarship application packet. All required items must be submitted as part of the candidate’s application packet. Do not submit items separately. The packet must include:
- A recent photo.
- A completed application (all sections and all pages). Note: Previous award winners need only to submit a two page write-up detailing the past year of their educational experience the importance of the scholarship. Include a recent formal transcript.
- Two current (within six months) letters of recommendation (excluding: family members and IMMC staff).
- Photo copy of your High School Diploma or GED if you have previously graduated.
- A photo copy of your most recent complete official transcript to ensure a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- HAND DELIVERY/MAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The fully completed Scholarship Application packet must be submitted in a sealed envelope for either hand delivery or postal mailing and addressed as follows:

- Completed application packets become the property of the Tammy and Linwood Gettings Memorial Scholarship Committee and will not be returned.
- Applications submitted after the deadline (See Section D) will NOT be considered.
- Decisions of the committee will be final with no recourse or legal liability towards the church or any member of the selection committee.
- SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE:
The Scholarship Committee will notify and schedule selected applicant interviews within three weeks after the April 15th application deadline.
The scholarship committee consists of:
- Members or Selected Individuals from Ivey Memorial Methodist Church.
- The Pastor of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church.
- Family members of applicants will be excluded from participation on the scholarship committee.
